Who is Psystar?
Psystar is a company producing and shipping Apple MAc clones running Apple's 10.5 Leopard
they have no affiliation with apple and are basically pumping out PC's with hardware that has been carefully chosen in order for it to run MAC OSX. These Machines are otherwise known as Hackintosh
So whats Happening?
Apple is now sueing Psystar and wanting it to recall ALL units sold since April. If you want more info troll ZDNET for some more info.
alot of people have been talking about the howz and why Apple has filed suit against Psystar and the basics are, other than Apple losing revenue etc..Psystar is producing substandard Apple clones(as XP or Vista machines they would probably be pretty damn good)
Apple is saying that because Psystar as modified parts of the OS(which has to be done in order to get it to run on normal hardware) 1. they are violating Intellectual property 2. they are breaking the OS and it does not perform the way it should thus giving apple a bit of bad press.
Why I love Apple
Alot of people hate Apple, Alot of people trash apple for it's propreitry views and hard-ass atitude...BUT one thing I have to say for them, from my own personal experience, Their stuff works well...Tiger and leopard are both awesome systems. it's streamlined..fast...freindly and I love it.
the software is written for THAT specific hardware which limits driver problems...YES there is a issue with software or more appropriately the LACK of software..people get used to what they have on windows and at times expect the same from MAC, BUT some of the software I have found is actually better than what I have used on windows.
When I compare Windows, Mac and Linux(the 3 big ones)
Windows I like for the simply reason that I know it, inside and out(more than is probably healthy
)
Linux is powerful it really is, it's an amazing system BUT the distrubutions that are floating around try and cater for too much. Yes it's great to have this open and free choice...BUT to someone who does not know the system it can get confusing not knowing what to install etc......ALSO configuration is not as easy as most people would like. I have been using linux since '94 so for me I don't really mind,I am easy going with linux.
That brings us to MAC, these guys tend to say..."his is what we are doing..Now conform" ok maybe that is a bit harsh...BUT they know what they want and they do it.
Their software is designed for the hardware, which means less driver problems a more robust and stable system.
I will always be a MAC fan, I have loved MAC's from the old Macintosh I had back in '96
